Faith in Exile: How to Know You’ve Lost the Catholic Faith—and What to Do Before It’s Too Late

Preamble:

This is a memorial publication. Today, August 1st, 2025, marks the 8th anniversary of my flight from the Modernist, ecumenical, synodal Pan-Religious impostor institution occupying Catholic buildings.

On this day, I wish to address one of the few questions I have received recently which occupies a pride of place:

Can a Catholic lose his Catholic faith without knowing, especially in a case where one ignorantly follows the crowd to believe in one or more heresies?

This is a two-in-one question. The first is "can faith be lost?" The second: "can faith be lost without one knowing it?"

These questions are very much relevant today in the face of the rotten fruits of modernist Indifferentism that abounds.

The simple response to each is an absolute YES.

Now, what are the signs that someone ensnared in the Modernist, ecumenical synodal Pan-Religious impostor church has indeed lost his Catholic Faith? What are the signs of hope in the middle of ruins? What must be done by one still retaining the gift of the Catholic Faith in the midst of the synodal, Pan-Religious ruins? Lets get to the details!

What is Christian Faith?

It is:

An assent of the intellect to revealed truth by command of the will moved by God through grace.” ~ Summa Theologiae, II-II, q. 2, a. 9

Christian faith is the firm conviction, arrived at with the grace of God, that all that Jesus Christ taught on earth is true, as well as all that the Catholic Church teaches by the commission she has received from Him.

“Faith is the first of all the virtues necessary for salvation… and without it, no one can please God.” -St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologiae, II-II, q. 2, a. 2

Thus, to possess the virtue of faith, one must believe all revealed truths with supernatural assent, not merely external conformity or emotional attachment.

This faith

...which is the beginning of human salvation, the Catholic Church professes to be a supernatural virtue, by means of which, with the grace of God inspiring and assisting us, we believe to be true what He has revealed, not because we perceive its intrinsic truth by the natural light of reason, but because of the authority of God himself, who makes the revelation and can neither deceive nor be deceived. ~ Vatican Council.

Can Faith Be Lost?

Yes, faith can be lost, and the Church teaches this with clarity and gravity. The very nature of faith—a supernatural virtue infused by God, requiring both the intellect and will to assent to revealed truth—means it can be weakened, wounded, or even destroyed.

Now, that firm conviction and intellectual assent to revealed truth can be weakened, wounded or lost in at least five ways:

  •  By indifference to the doctrines of faith;
  •  By wilful doubt respecting the truths of faith;
  • By reading books or other literature that is hostile to the faith;
  •  By frequenting the assemblies of those who are hostile to the faith;
  •  By neglecting the practice of one’s religion.
It would be of great help to discuss each of these in some details: what each means, signs, and why dangerous?

1. Indifference to the Doctrines of the Faith
  • What It Means:
Treating all doctrines as equal, optional, or unimportant. The soul becomes cold and unmoved by divine truth.
“Lukewarmness is more detestable to Me than open enmity.”
— Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary

What are the signs of one who indifferent to the doctrines of the Faith?

  • Disinterest in catechesis or doctrinal clarity.
  • Saying things like “doctrine divides,” or “what matters is love, not theology.”
  • Avoiding theological discussion as “too rigid” or “not pastoral.”
  • Watching or listening to false teachers without concern.
  •  Why is this indifference Dangerous:
Indifference is the death of zeal, and zeal is a mark of the supernatural virtue of faith. Without this fire, the soul grows blind and becomes vulnerable to heresy or apostasy.

 2. Wilful Doubt of Revealed Truths

What It Means:

Refusing to assent to a truth of the Faith, even when one knows it is divinely revealed.
“Whoever denies a single dogma has lost the Faith.”
— Pope Leo XIII, Satis Cognitum
Signs to look out for:
  • Denying the Real Presence, papal infallibility, the existence of Hell, etc.
  • Saying: “I don’t believe that anymore” or “That teaching doesn’t make sense to me.”
  • Preferring “my personal relationship with Jesus” over dogmatic truths.
  • Treating articles of Faith as open for debate.
Why Dangerous:

Wilful doubt is formal heresy. Even one such rejection renders the soul outside the Church.

3. Reading Anti-Catholic or Heretical Literature
  • What It Means:
Exposing oneself willingly to books, videos, websites, or posts hostile to Catholic doctrine or morals.

Signs:
  • Quoting or admiring Modernist authors, Protestant thinkers, New Age writers.
  • Using terms from false religions (“energy,” “manifest,” “oneness with the universe”).
  • Preferring secular or psychological advice over the Gospel.
Why is this Dangerous?

What we consume shapes what we believe. As St. Alphonsus says, “The reading of bad books has damned more souls than anything else.” Even a seemingly innocent book can plant doubt, pride, or rebellion.

 4. Frequenting the Assemblies of Heretics or Infidels
  •  What It Means:
Regularly attending worship, services outside the Church (e.g., Protestant churches, synagogues, mosques), or ecumenical services and events that mix truth with error.

Signs:
  • Attending Pentecostal services “for fellowship.”
  • Participating in Ecumenical and  interfaith events.
  • Believing that all worship services are somehow valid or “spiritual.”
 Why this is Dangerous:

This fosters communion in sacris—sharing in false worship. It leads to indifferentism and ultimately destroys Catholic identity. That is why the divine law forbids this.

 5. Neglecting the Practice of Religion
  •  What It Means:
Failing to attend Mass, pray, frequent the sacraments, or observe the precepts of the Church.
Faith without works is dead. — James 2:26
If you love Me, keep My commandments.” — John 14:15

What are the signs of one neglect the practice of Religion?

  • Missing Sunday Mass habitually without mortal necessity.
  • Abandoning the Rosary or sacramental Confession.
  • Living in sin without remorse or confession.
  • Claiming to be “spiritual but not religious.”
 Why this is Dangerous:

Neglect leads to the hardening of heart and the extinguishing of the light of grace. Faith requires living correspondence with grace. When prayer dies, faith dies with it.

Spotting a Soul Lost to the Synodal Impostor Church

The following are some of the indications that someone ensnared in the Modernist, ecumenical synodal Pan-Religious impostor church has suffered the "shipwreck concerning the Faith" (1 Tim. 1:19)
  • Denial of the Exclusive Truth of the Catholic Church. Having taken over dosage of the Modernist poison -indiferentism- such believes all religions are equally valid paths to God.
  • Rejection of Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus: As a logical consequence of the same Indifferentism, such scoffs at the dogma “Outside the Church there is no salvation.
  • Subjection of Doctrine to Dialogue:  Such prefers "dialogue" over conversion, and avoids proclaiming Christ as the only Truth.
  • Understanding of the Mass as “Celebration”: Such sees the Holy Sacrifice as a communal meal or festivity, not a propitiatory sacrifice.
  • Acceptance of Female Ministers and Lay-led Liturgies: Supports altar girls, lay preaching, or “eucharistic services” led by laity.
  • Moral Relativism and Laxity: Justifies contraception, divorce, sodomy, cohabitation under “pastoral accompaniment.”
  • Addiction to Novelty and Change: Embraces constant liturgical reforms, changing doctrines, and "synodal discernment."
  • Indifference to Tradition and Sacred Liturgy: Shows contempt toward the Traditional Catholic Mass and ancient devotions.
  • Obsession with “Mother Earth,” Environment, and Human Fraternity: Treats ecological issues and Judeo-Masonic UN-style fraternity as higher than salvation of souls.
  • Glorification of Heretics, Pagans, and Apostates: Praises Luther, visits mosques and temples, joins interfaith ceremonies.
  • Blind Obedience to the Apostate Hierarchy: Defends every heresy, scandal, or liturgical abuse just because a supposed "Pope" or bishop said it—placing man above unchanging Truth.
  • Hatred or Suspicion Toward True Catholics: Labels faithful Traditionalists as “schismatic,” “rigid,” “dangerous,” or “cultish.” How well our Lord did say “They will persecute you... thinking they offer worship to God” (John 16:2) –

Yes, these are marks of a soul seduced from the Catholic Faith—by which we mean the pristine, apostolic, militant, and exclusive Faith of all time. Such a soul has, in some measure, fallen to the Modernist heresy, which Pope St. Pius X rightly called the “synthesis of all heresies,” whether knowingly or through ignorance.

Varying Degrees Of Ignorance.
  • A number of those ensnared in the Modernist, ecumenical synodal, Pan-Religious impostor church occupying Catholic buildings suffer from ignorance of the fact that what they have grown used to is not the Catholic religion. This ignorance of fact extends in some cases to the knowledge of the intrinsic sinfulness of interfaith worship, being victims of Modernist indifferentist Catechesis.
  • Some may be invincibly ignorant- i.e. their ignorance cannot be overcome even with reasonable effort; not culpable.
  • Some are vincibly ignorant: their Ignorance could be overcome by due diligence or effort and they are culpable to the degree of neglect.
  • Those vincibly ignorant fall under these degrees: Merely vincible: Some effort made, but not sufficient. Crass or supine: Little or no effort to learn what one should. Affected: these deliberately choose to remain ignorant in order to remain in the business of promoting Modernism for it's temporary dividends.
According to objective principles of Catholic moral theology affected ignorance is itself a mortal sin when it concerns grave matters and is adopted to avoid learning one’s duty.
Now, what constitutes a “grave matter” includes the knowledge and profession of the truths of the Catholic Faith, as well as one's duties flowing from that knowledge—such as worship, moral conduct, and fidelity to the Church. Therefore, willful ignorance concerning the Faith and one's responsibility in relation to it is no small fault; it is, in fact, gravely sinful when done deliberately, particularly when aimed at avoiding the implications of obedience to Divine Revelation and the unchanging Tradition of the Church.

Temporary dividends? One may wonder. Yes, because of losing someone or something many simply keep a blind eye or give a dear ear to the fact of the modernist apostasy and its fruits. Now, here is a summary list of the some of the temporary dividends of promoting or tolerating Modernism:
  • Social acceptance and applause from the world.
  • Advancement and positions of influence.
  • Access to funding and material benefits.
  • Wider appeal to lukewarm or worldly Catholics.
  • Personal comfort by avoiding hard truths and sacrifice.
  • Reputation for being “pastoral” or “merciful.”
  • Ecumenical prestige and global recognition.
All these are fleeting gains—“They have received their reward” (cf. Matt. 6:2)—while the cost is often the loss of souls and the betrayal of Christ's true Church.
We must note also that some from the ranks of those actively promoting or tolerating Modernism know these truths. They are not ignorant, but they fear isolation, defamation, or loss of means of sustenance.  This fear can, and must be overcome by grace and the virtue of fortitude. They must take to heart our Lord's warning:
He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who gathers not with Me scatters (Matt. 12:30).

Now, even in the midst of Modernism, some retain baptismal grace or imperfect faith. This leads us to look in admiration at the signs of life in the ruins.

Signs of Life in the Ruins:

The following are the signs that someone ensnared in the Modernist, ecumenical, synodal Pan-Religious impostor institution occupying Catholic buildings is still retaining the Catholic Faith in his soul - signs that the flame still burns:
  • Interior Disgust at Liturgical Abuse:
He feels pain, not joy, when sacred rites are mocked by clown, carnival “Masses,” pride flags, dancing nuns, and banal songs.
  • Reverence for the Holy Eucharist:
He believes firmly in the Real Presence and instinctively kneels or bows—even if others chat, clap, or chew Him like chips.
  • Suspicion Toward Doctrinal Novelties:
He cringes when told that "all religions are paths to God" or that “God wills a diversity of religions.”
  • Longing for the Sacred and the True:
He finds no nourishment in praise bands or "synodal listening sessions," and yearns for incense, Latin, silence, and Truth.
  • Affection for the Saints and the Old Ways:
He treasures stories of martyrs, processions, relics, rosaries, Ember Days, and Gregorian chant—even if they’re mocked as outdated.

  • Discomfort with Ecumenical Gimmicks:
He feels confused or saddened when his “pastor” joins imams and rabbis in ceremonies that ignore Christ's Kingship.
  • Instinctive Love for the Papacy — But Trouble in Conscience:
He wants to honor the Pope, but can’t reconcile that desire with the scandal of papal promotion of error or idolatry.

The Escape Route

What must such a person do to preserve and save his Faith?
  • Flee the Poisoned Pasture:
Like Lot from Sodom or the sheep from the hireling, he must leave the Modernist parish, no matter how long he’s belonged.
  • Seek the True Mass and Doctrine:
He must find refuge where the traditional Roman Catholic Faith is whole—especially in the untainted Latin Mass, -Mass not "una cum" a modernist Papal Impostor; with priests who preach the old Catechism without compromise.
  • Read Pre-Vatican II Saints and Popes:
Let him be nourished by the clear water of Trent, Pius IX, Leo XIII, St. Alphonsus, St. Pius X—not the muddy jargon of ecumenical, synodal, Pan-Religious documents.
  • Pray the Rosary Daily for Light and Strength:
Our Lady of Fatima will not abandon a soul who turns to her sincerely—even from deep within the Modernist desert.
  • Study the Dogma "Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus":
To understand the urgency of conversion and the deadly error of Indifferentism—the central virus of the Synodal Church.
  • Suffer with the Church, Not Against Her:
Let him accept being called “schismatic,” “rigid,” or “uncharitable,” knowing that Christ too was hated by the synagogue when He spoke the Truth.

Yes, like a coal barely glowing in a dying fire, such a soul must be drawn out quickly and placed into the hearth of the true Church in the nearest Catacomb, lest the last spark be extinguished by the smoke of the new religion - the smoke of Satan. He stands at the crossroads between grace and apostasy. Let him not delay.

Summing Up:

The very nature of faith—a supernatural virtue infused by God, requiring both the intellect and will to assent to revealed truth—means it can be weakened, wounded, or even destroyed.
  • It is weakened through habitual neglect, sin, or lukewarmness —still present, but fragile.
  • It is wounded, i.e, obscured or clouded, by venial sins, false ideas, or compromises with error. The virtue remains, but its clarity is damaged.
  • It is destroyed through mortal sin against faith, such as heresy, apostasy, or deliberate doubt. Here it does not merely “sleep”—it is dead unless revived by repentance and grace.
The signs are easily discernable.

Anyone still retaining the Catholic Faith in his soul by a special miracle of grace though pitifully ensnared in the Modernist, ecumenical, synodal Pan-Religious impostor institution occupying Catholic buildings must make haste to take the escape route. So not delay, lest it be too late!

I was thus ensnared, but, Providence ordering all things sweetly, I was led to take the escape route without looking back: it is now eight (8) years. Blessed be God!

You?
  • Have you suffered the shipwreck concerning the Faith while pitifully ensnared in the Modernist, ecumenical synodal, Pan-Religious impostor church occupying Catholic buildings? Make haste to reclaim it!
  • Have you been spared the infection with the Modernist, ecumenical synodal, Pan-Religious poison though immersed in the ruins? As a token of gratitude to divine Providence, make haste to use the escape route! Do not delay! Follow the narrow path!
Remember, “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” (Heb. 11:6) — and not just any vague belief or sentimental leaning, but the Catholic faith in its entirety and purity as preserved and handed down before the Modernist coup. God speed you 🙏
